This replica Maori Axe ( Toki Kaka Poto, also called a Patiti in its smaller form) features a New Zealand greenstone axe head and carved timber (pine) shaft. As per tradition, paua shell pieces are used to decorate the carving. The axe sits on a display stand.
The axe was a valuable Maori tool, used to fell trees, clear vegetation, prepare tree trunks for carving into waka (canoes), and general carving.
This axe is sold in two sizes - Small and Large, with the large axe having more surface carving.
Small : length approx 26.1cm (10 1/4'), on a stand 28.8cm (11 3/8') long
Large : length approx 44.5cm (17 1/2'), on a stand 53.4cm (21') long
The Maori Axe makes an excellent addition to a Maori collection, and a great presentation piece too. Display on your desk, table or mantlepiece.
There is the option of having the base engraved, for a presentation, gift or trophy. Up to 5 words can be engraved onto a gold plaque - enter the words you want in the Text Box that will open up once you have selected an engraved option. Please note that engraved items cannot be returned, except for the very unlikely event that we get the engraving wrong. Allow 3-4 days for engraving to be done.
You can also choose to have the recipient's name laser engraved into the wood, and/or have that paua inlaid. If you want paua engraving, there is a limit of 18 characters, and the name must be in CAPITALS. This shows off the paua to its best effect.
If you also want a '21' paua engraved into the front of the stand, to give it as a 21st gift, there is that option too.
There is also the option of a black gift box for the small axe and stand, and a brown box for the large axe and stand - perfect for when it is a presentation piece.
